2008 Florida Statewide Prevention Conference Scholarship Application: "Buy Two, Get One Free"
The Florida Prevention Partnership, along with the Executive Office of the Governor, Office of Drug Control are pleased to host the 2008 Florida Statewide Prevention Conference, October 1-3. The conference will provide new insights on science-based prevention efforts and effective prevention strategies. We are also proud to announce the opportunity for a Buy Two at the regular rate & GET ONE FREE Scholarship Promotion being offered through August 15th. The scholarships are applicable only for the conference registration fee (either Golden Ticket which includes both the Suicide Prevention Symposium & Prevention Conference or just the Prevention
Conference) and only Not-for-Profit organizations are eligible. Only one scholarship per organization.

Orange County Drug Free Coalition Teams Up with Law Enforcement to Reduce Underage Drinking
Law enforcement officers hit the streets over the weekend for a cooperative operation targeting retail businesses selling alcohol to underage persons. The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco and local law enforcement agencies announced the results of Project Graduation "Reducing Underage Drinking" today in the Orange County Administration Bldg. 201 S. Rosalind Avenue. The sting operation included 221 compliance checks and 28 arrests.
The program, Project Graduation – "Reducing Underage Drinking", is geared to reduce underage students from purchasing and consuming alcohol. Project Graduation allows businesses and law enforcement to send a message to the community that underage drinking will not be tolerated. (read more)
Join Together Article on Florida Alcohol Energy Drinks Enforcement
The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Products recently conducted a series of statewide sting operations targeting sales of alcoholic energy drinks to underage youth and found that about one in four visits resulted in sales to buyers under age 21.The agency's "Operation Cocktail for Disaster" included undercover purchase attempts at 932 establishments, and resulted in 173 arrests. Compliance rates ranged from a high of 94 percent in Pensacola to a low of 38 percent in Miami. Statewide, compliance for alcoholic energy drink sales averaged 76 percent, compared to the state's 86-percent compliance rate for other types of alcohol sales. (read more)

New Drug-Free Workplace Kit Available from SAMHSA
According to the 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 74.9 percent of all adult illicit drug users and most binge and heavy alcohol users are employed full or part time, which can cause loss of productivity, absenteeism and workplace accidents. A new kit is now available from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to help employers develop drug-free workplace policies and programs. The free Drug-Free Workplace Kit provides public and private workplaces with practical evidence-based information, resources, and tools for producing and maintaining drug-free workplace policies and programs. Coalition coaches have been trained and assigned to each community participating in the SARG process. The SARG Coaches provide support and assist each community as they go through the SARG process. The coach assists with clarification of each step, provides helpful feedback and assists with problem solving along the way. Be sure to call on our “coaches” as they are eager to assist you.
